So, if you’ve been here before things may look a little different since today, I merged all the content from two separate (but related) Blogger blogs into one WordPress blog. <sarcasm>Now THAT was a whole lot of fun.</sarcasm>
I did this for the following reasons:
- Blogger’s tagline is “Push button publishing” which is fine for some people but flexibility is what I needed and self-hosted WordPress provides that in spades.
- T-Mobile, my cellular service provider, recently started adding all kinds of crappy “sent using T-Mobile” graphic attachments to my emailed pictures thereby screwing up Google’s (Blogger) mobile posting mechanism. I thought of trying to fix it with some SMTP magic but some things are just not worth the time.
- I can add all kinds of fancy sidebar widgets to a WordPress blog and if something doesn’t work, I can fix or modify it since I know PHP.
- I can add cooler themes to a WordPress blog.
A word about the choice of theme. Those of you who know me know that typically work on IBM equipment for work in general. Why the Mac looking theme you ask? Maybe it’s because I hate Windows (and most of the garbage Microsoft releases) and I truly want to use a Mac but at this time my day job prevents me from immersing myself in a desktop environment other than Windows. I support it at work and so I should probably use it all day lest I get rusty. The time is coming though when that will change. It’ll either be Mac OS or some kind of Linux-based desktop environment.
So that’s about it for the changes for now. In the future I plan to add some kind of photo-album functionality so photos don’t appear as posts plus some other fun stuff using Python of all things. Stay tuned.
